Another project result is a study that evaluates the effectiveness of the S.T.E.P. – Single-parent Training and Empowerment Program, a socio-emotional intervention using action methods, designed for single parents in Romania and Portugal. The program included 12 experiential workshops (2 hours each), structured into four thematic modules and based on action methods specific to psychodrama (role reversal, mirroring, doubling, social atom).
The pre–post comparative analysis showed a significant increase in emotional competencies, particularly in emotional expression, emotional self-regulation, and the recognition of affective needs. The effects were more pronounced in Romania, while similar positive trends were observed in Portugal.

These results confirm the effectiveness of the S.T.E.P. program in enhancing emotional self-regulation over a short period. Although no significant changes were identified in social skills, this may be explained by the already high level of these competencies at program entry and the brief duration of the intervention. The conclusions support the real potential of short-term, experiential interventions using action methods in developing emotional and social skills in parents facing vulnerable contexts and highlight the need for further research on long-term effects.
